Brock Brady, PhD
Dr. Brock Brady's journey has been driven by the core values of Dedication, Determination, and Desire, instilled by his father, Scott Brady. These values became a foundation for Brock and his brother, Skyler, guiding them in every challenge and success.
Brock’s athletic career began at the young age of 2 with Taekwondo, earning his black belt by age 8 and second place in the Virginia State Championship. His love for competition continued as he explored various sports, from wrestling, where he achieved an undefeated season, to crew, where his team secured district wins and nearly claimed a state title. He later returned to martial arts, discovering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 15, winning the NAGA Virginia State Championship. The loss of his father at 17 was a pivotal moment in Brock’s life, but he chose to carry on the legacy of resilience and excellence his father had passed down.
While pursuing his degree at Christopher Newport University, Brock continued his athletic endeavors, serving as president of the Mixed Martial Arts Club and incorporating CrossFit into the club's training, which led to multiple university victories. His passion for CrossFit culminated in four regional competitions in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017, where he ranked as the 151st fittest man in the world.
In addition to his athletic success, Brock’s academic pursuits were deeply encouraged by his mother, Laurie Brady. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with double minors in Biology and Philosophy/Religious Studies. His rigorous academic journey continued with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University. During his doctoral research, Brock focused on public health and risk assessment, exploring the distinction between reactive and proactive medicine through continuous monitoring of electrolytes and biomarkers. His research led to groundbreaking innovations, including developing a sweat-sensing optical sensor, an E. coli detecting catheter, fluorescent nanoparticles for cellular imaging, and nanoparticles for cancer drug delivery. His exceptional contributions were recognized by prestigious awards, including the Altria Research Fellowship and the American Chemical Society Editors' Choice Award. He also authored multiple publications, a book chapter, and secured a patent for his work.
In recent years, Brock has blended his passion for science and fitness. As a top-rated fitness trainer and programmer in New York City, he helped transform the lives of hundreds of individuals through his health and wellness programs. His programming received rave reviews, and he was named one of NYC’s top trainers, being invited to Men’s Health as a Trainer of the Day.
Brock’s journey has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics. His father’s legacy and his desire to push boundaries continue to inspire his work in fitness, science, and public health.
